One of the most lucrative services I offer in my handyman business is window washing. And it all started on a whim, with a customer asking if I would be willing to clean their windows. I said sure, she said she had the gear, I watched a ton of youtube videos and went to work. It didn’t suck so I bought an inexpensive beginners kit from Etore which served me well for a year or so.

After that first job I continued to practice at home and tried to learn the fanning technique but settled on the simpler pull style.

The kit did a pretty good job, together with a 2.5 gallon margarine bucket and blue dawn dish soap I made it work. But as a perfectionist I started to ugrade my gear a bit at a time. First I got a better squegge. I wanted one that was wider, and a litter sturdier. I bought the Etore 12″ with replaceable rubber. Then I realized I neeeded a longer and shorter squeege so I bought a Unger 16″ and an Unger 8″.

I used them for a while and decided I wanted a wider and more durable srcub brush. So again I got an Unger 14″ Scrubber. Unger and Etore are two of the top brands in window cleaning for sure. Then since the scrubber was longer it wouldn’t fit in the bucket anymore so it was time for a professional washing bucket. So I ordered a 3 gallon Etore Bucket.

This is the gear I use today and it works beautifully. For about 100 bucks you can be set up to make money quickly. I charge $5 dollars per ground floor window and can do around 20 windows and hour. Take a few minutes put out a post on social media or walk into all your down town businesses offering window cleaning, and you will soon be busier than you think you can handle.

The two secrets to really clean windows is Blue Dawn Dish soap in the water, not Windex. and #0000 steel wool for the crusted on bugs and dirt.
