My wife and I have used these Themacell mosquito repeller for three summers now and are surprised at how well they work. We are still using the original device we bought three summers ago, with any problems short of needing the occasional wipe down or cleaning to remove the residue from the top.
Even though we don’t have issues with mosquitoes a significant portion of the year in the great white north in the height of summer we have always struggled with being able to sit outdoors and enjoy ourselves. Since we started using the Thermacell we have been able to enjoy ourselves a bit more. They can be a bit difficult to light when cold but once going work great, just need to remember to refill them as needed
The Thermacell takes a butane cartridge that is what burns as well as a repellent pad that releases the chemical to keep the bugs away. We have found the best way to buy the refills is in the biggest box we can. That seems to be the only way to save money on them.
We have a deck sitting area that is 16’x16′ and we have one on each end of the 6 foot outdoor table and it seems to keep our entire sitting area mosquito free. This upcoming summer we are going to test the rechargeable usb ones that don’t require butane. But until then the butane/cartridge combination is the way we are going.
