I am all about little gadgets that make your life just a little bit better. And a proper Carpenters Pencil Sharpener is an item that does just that. I remember for many years the best you could hope for when sharpening a carpenters pencil, was using your jackknife, and hoping you took off just enough wood the lead would mark but not break the first time you try to write with it.
Then one day not long before I was done working at the hardware store, we got one of these little sharpeners in. It was so simple I couldn’t believe someone hadn’t thought of it before. The pencil goes into the slot shaped perfectly for it, and the sharpener spins around the outside. Gives you a perfectly sharpened pencil every single time.
The biggest issue I have with it is keeping track of where I left it. So having a few on hand is a good solution for the price. I am horrible with holding onto small items like this I will set it down after using it and poof it vanishes. Or better than that it will be in my toolbox I’ll tear the damn thing apart and still not find it. Then the next day when I don’t need it anymore there it is plain as day on the bottom of my tool box.
